How to Import Contracts from CSV or Excel
Short answer: Download the DocRenewal import template, fill one contract per row, then upload a CSV or .xlsx file and review the preview before importing. The importer accepts up to 500 contracts per batch and flags invalid rows so you can correct the source data before creating records.
Prepare the spreadsheet before importing
Use the template to keep column names consistent. Each row should represent one contract. Title, Vendor, Cost, Start Date, and End Date are required. Category, Billing Frequency, Auto Renew, Cancellation Deadline, Document URL, and Notes are optional. Verify every date and amount against a trusted source document.
Use supported file types and valid values
DocRenewal accepts CSV and Excel .xlsx files up to 5 MB. Dates can use an unambiguous format such as YYYY-MM-DD; the importer also reads Excel date cells and common US-formatted dates. Costs must be non-negative numbers. For Auto Renew, use Yes or No. Blank categories are assigned to “Other.”
Upload the file and review the preview
Open the contract import dialog, choose the prepared file, and inspect the row preview. Check titles, vendors, amounts, dates, categories, and any validation messages. A row with a missing required value, an invalid date, or an end date before its start date needs to be corrected before import.
Fix errors in the source file, then preview again
Correct the spreadsheet rather than guessing at contractual details inside an import. Confirm that cancellation deadlines are distinct from contract end dates and that dates reflect signed agreements or amendments. Re-upload the corrected file and check the preview again before confirming.
Frequently asked questions
How many contracts can I import at once?
The current import limit is 500 contract rows per batch, and the file must be no larger than 5 MB.
Can I import a Google Sheets file?
Export the sheet as CSV or Excel .xlsx first. Those are the file formats supported by the importer.
Does importing verify contract terms?
No. Validation checks data format and required fields; it does not verify facts against the signed agreement. Review source documents and correct the spreadsheet before importing.
A careful preview is the quickest way to avoid importing incomplete contract records. See DocRenewal spreadsheet import features for the supported workflow.
